File Jockey for IBM Connections cloud is a free service.
To keep the servers running we appreciate your donation.

File Jockey provides Windows and Mac users a network drive which displays the files stored in IBM Connections Cloud. This service is delivered to you free of charge.

The new network drive will allow seamless read and write access to the files stored in IBM Cloud Connections from programs like MS Office. For example, users will be able to:

  1. In MS Word, save a Word file directly to a IBM Connections Cloud Community Library via the File/Save As operation.
  2. In MS Excel, open an existing Excel file directly from IBM Connections Cloud My Files via the File/Open operation, modify the file and save it back directly to IBM Connections Cloud by pressing the Save button in Excel.
  3. Quickly browse through the files stored in IBM Connections Cloud via the network drive.
  4. In the IBM Connections Cloud network drive, use the right click option to create a new Word file; give it a file name; work on the content; and save or close the file directly in IBM Connections Cloud.
  5. Carry out batch operations like copying a complete IBM Connections Cloud Community including all files and folders to another disk.

File Jockey v2 fully integrates both Windows and Mac computers with the files stored in IBM Connections Cloud.

In addition File Jockey will continue to connect third party apps on mobile devices (like Goodreader and Notability) with the files stored in IBM Connections Cloud 5. The only difference with the previous version is much higher transfer speeds!

If you have problems with mapping the Windows network drive please check make sure you follow the instructions below.

  • Make sure all Windows updates are installed on your computer, then test again, if still having problems carry out the following step.
  • Windows 7 and Vista will fail to connect to the server using insecure Basic authentication. It will not even display any login dialog. Windows 7 and Vista requires SSL / HTTPS connection to be used with Basic. If you try to connect via Add Network Location Wizard you will get the following error: “The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another“. However, you still can connect if you set the following registry key on a client machine: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters\BasicAuthLevel to 2. The BasicAuthLevel can be set to the following values:
    • 0 – Basic authentication disabled
    • 1 – Basic authentication enabled for SSL shares only
    • 2 or greater – Basic authentication enabled for SSL shares and for non-SSL shares
    • You must reboot your computer if you changed this registry setting, then test again, if still having problems carry out the following step.
  • Next check this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order\ProviderOrder. This contains a list of network provider services and make sure it also contains the “webclient” entry.
  • Next try will be to implement this hotfix, for KB2563214, then reboot your PC and try again, if still having problems carry out the following step.
  • If the mapped was created you should see the Communities, My Folders and My Files. If the folder is empty, so you see nothing you have entered the wrong credentials, to fix disconnect the drive and reconnect with the correct credentials.
  • Still problems, email support@lialis.com.

We noticed that Finder is not the fastest WebDAV client. We advice for any network connected drive, in Finder: uncheck “Show icon preview” option for Column view and disable “Show item info” in icon view. If you are going to carry out write operations in the IBM Connections Cloud network drive please carry out the instructions in this post to prevent the creation of .DS-store files. If you store a large amount of files in a single folder it may take a while before the files are displayed in Finder. This is a Finder issue because on Windows PC’s the same operation will be very fast.

IBM Connections Cloud application passwords

In case SSO has been enabled for your Connections Cloud, File Jockey does not work with your regular credentials. In this case you must set an application password in IBM Connections Cloud and use this password with your username in File Jockey.

Security

Security: On the File Jockey Cloud server we cache the clients documents send to or received from IBM Connections Cloud servers to improve the speed of the File Jockey server. These files are stored encrypted on the File Jockey server and are removed after 60 minutes from the File Jockey server when the files are not used by the users. The client’s credentials are given to the File Jockey server which passes these credential to the clients IBM Connections Cloud server. Lialis does not log the client’s passwords, only the user names are logged on the File Jockey server. The File Jockey server does not check if the user’s credentials are valid. It will allow any user (who knows the File Jockey URL to pass thru to the IBM Connections Cloud server. At the IBM Connections Cloud server the user credentials checked. If the credentials are reported as invalid by the Connections server the File Jockey cloud server will give a not authorized error to the user, it will simply display nothing. The File Jockey Cloud servers run on Amazon EC2 server which are secured by Amazon security groups and firewalls. File Jockey Cloud runs on Apache Tomcat.
